Oso Oso San Diego Concert reviews
Ray blew David out of the water
I love Oso Oso and have been wanting to see him live for a long time. Most of his songs were top notch, and I even loved the songs from his new album which I had not yet heard. David Gray satisfied with the hits of his past, but with his other songs he just comes off as trying too hard...and failing. Ray's voice is something to behold, and the concert is worth going to just to see him.
While Oso Oso was magnificent, most people at the concert I talked to, David Gray fans as well, agreed that David was just average. I might be a bit biased, as I am only a casual David Gray fan, enjoying his hits, but never really having the desire to see him in concert. I would give this show 5 stars for David Gray's performance, and 3 for Oso Oso's.
It is obvious that Oso is on his way up, while David is running along his plateau. After Oso Oso's textured gravelly voice, David's nothing-special voice was unimpressive. We were disappointed that Oso and David did not do any songs together, and waited through David Gray's tiresome extended encore just to see if Oso would come out again. Alas, he did not, and we left wishing we had done so after David Gray played Say Hello Wave Goodbye. Also, whoever designed the lighting for David Gray's set should be fired! Who thought it was a good idea to shine blinding stage lights at the audience for his ENTIRE set?
Advice: Leave after David Gray does his hits. Enjoy Oso Oso.
